about

"I had the idea of a song about an overprotective mother from the perspective of a kid. It doesn't go deep enough into the mind of the child as much as I would have hoped, but I think it turned out alright. Unsurprisingly, MKB stands for 'Mother Knows Best', but the song title is just 'MKB.'" -baggagelizard

lyrics

Out there in the space floating amongst the little stars
a safe haven from the earth with its agony and scars
so happy I'd be if I could be free from this curse
but no, it can't be so, because I'll die if I see my shadow

"So, that's what you want?" Mother complains, worried for me
I know it's just a dream, a mindless fantasy
She knows what is true, and I should too,
Why am I crazy?
To think I could touch the stars without failing miserably..

Mom said that danger's at every turn
and that people will never ever learn
so you should take precautions out there in the world
or a painful failure's guaranteed

one eye sees the world, the other left to a sea of eyes
it gets to see all of the evils without malefice
what horrors it must see, in this world we have been cursed to walk
I sometimes want to know but I cannot show this side of me now

Mom said that danger's at every turn
and that people will never ever learn
so you should take precautions out there in the world
or a painful failure's guarantee...

what's happening?! Mom's not moving,
like statues pale and stiff
I must get outside help
even though that's something I can't risk

Out there on this earth
what have I lost, being as I am?
This safe haven was a farce
my eyes have opened to sadness

so happy I'd be
if I could see why this had to happen
but no it can't be so
though I'll never know I can see tomorrow

So I must live on
I must be strong in this scary world
but I will never forget the love you had
just to keep me safely

without pain or despair, though it impaired
what I can become
